TITLE
A analysis of Shadow of a Vampire: Not your typical vampire flick.

ENTRY

Tonight, I was quite pleasently suprised when HBO ran a movie I didn't think they would ever get.

The movie is called Shadow of the Vampire, staring John Malcovich, Willian Defoe, and a shit load of other familiar faces.

Of course, they didn't show it tell 1 A.M., but thats not suprising because this movie was just not meant for kiddies to see.

If you haven't seen it, let me give a little synopsis of the movie for you.

It is a fictional twist on a real life set of events. The movie is based of the filming of the 1920's silent film Nosferatu, which was extremely controversial in its time.

In this movie, it broke the standard mold of all vampires are these highly attractive, alluring creatures. Instead, the vampire or Nosferatu looks more like some abomination of a wild beast. Uglier then hell, and quite frightening to witness.

It is quite fitting that the movie based on the shootings of the silent film, would also break the mold of standard vampire movies.

Now for a little history lesson askewed by my fucked up head, about that period of time and events. First off, the germans back then prized there films greatly, so the makers of films where usually people with a docterate under there belt. Mostly this was a result of the goverment utilizing propaganda films during world war one. Which, after the war, inevitably sparked a more creative need for the films.

Now, back to the movie...

In Shadow of a Vampire, they take a more supernatural twist on the filming of Nosferatu. To start off Heir Doctor *the director* only lets one person, the actor in the film, know who is playing Count Udo and why they where relocationg the film set.

According to Heir Doctor, the person who is playing Count Udo *Nosferatu* will be a man called Max Shrek, a complete unknown actor with extremely controversial means for preparing for his role.

First off, he must fully emerce his personality with the characters personality, so in the end he will be the character himself. Because of this, he will come to set in full make up *the fugly Nosferatu look* and always in character. Also because of this, he will only be filmed at night time, since his character can only exist at night time.

So the cast and all the people behind the scene seem upset at these set rules. Also because Heir Doctor refused to talk about the up coming scenes with anyone tell the moment the scene was to be shot.

So an air of mystery floats around the movie set, setting a preaty good moad for the movie.

When the cast and other members of the film are first introduced to Max Shrek aka Count Udo, is on film with his very first introducition within the film.

Over time in the film, strange events occure that make you quiestion is this Nosferatu for real, or has this actor so enveloped himself in the role that he actually thinks he is Count Udo.

A preaty slow movie in actuality, more of an aquired taste, which was why it did so horribly in the box offices...its more of an art film then a box office smash.

I leave the majority of the film and its ending a mystery so you may check it out without having me completely ruin it for you.

Now, I'm off, this entry is preaty much boring for anyone who hasn't seen the film and doesn't care to see it at all, and well...this entry just flat out isn't funny.

Thats cause I really don't have anything funny to say really....to deep into serious evaluation of shit mode to be funny....
