TITLE
Love - The gift and the torture.

ENTRY

This is a prompt for Random Acts of Journaling based off this quote.

Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, and irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.

-- C.S. Lewis

Since the dawn of time this has been humanitys greatest conflict in life. Our need for love, but our fear of leaving ourselves open for pain and suffering.

In one hand it is what makes life so beautiful, love. The colors are crisper, the smells richer, life is lighter and exciting. Nothing is unattainable when love is the force that drives us. Self doubt and pessimism are fleeting thoughts as we scale the mountains placed in the pathways of our lives. We know we can get through it because there is someone right there with you, holding your hand, caring what becomes of you.

Being vulnerable like this unfortunately stirs our deeper fears in us. A fear that we trust the one we love so much that its guaranteed one day that person will hurt you. That you will cross your arms over your chest, close your eyes, and fall backwards and one day that person you love so much wont be there to catch you. It is the breeding ground for hatred, loathing, and anxiety.

Though in the end when you love someone that is not the only gift you give this person. Along with this love you give them your trust. Trust they wont tear at the tender parts of your heart when you peal back the armor and reveal to them you inner self. Trust that the love you so freely give is also equally reciprocated.

We talk so much about one of humanitys greatest gifts is free will, but we neglect to mention the ability to love being as great of a gift. We neglect to because in essence love is a double edged sword. Though it might be the strength you need to make it through life it can also be the final blow that ends it.

And how many atrocities through out history have been made in the name of love?

When it comes to love a certain amount of self imposed ignorance is required. To try and forget all the pain and misery that love can give you and remember all the greatness of it. If love is to conquer all it can not be held back by the fears of the what ifs. If you dont have faith in the love you feel for someone it will surely fail you. Because you cant expect to keep trusting someone if at every turn you wonder when and how they will finally hurt you.

In the end love is the spice of life that goes hand in hand with trust. And to trust and love someone with your heart with no fear of the pain is what the true meaning of life is.
